45-year-old female betel-quid chewer was referred to an oral medicine clinic by her dentist. The figure illustrates heavily stained mucosa and teeth due to chronic betel-quid use. White patches are present in two different locations A) the lateral margin of the tongue and B) gingiva-buccal sulcus. Features are consistent with leukoplakia induced by regular betel-quid use. Biopsy of the lateral tongue revealed mild dysplasia.
Notes: The patient was advised to quit betel-quid use. Her white patches are being monitored regularly by a specialist.
